Every active Oregon broker, principal broker, and property manager must complete continuing education to renew their license. If this is your first active renewal, your requirements are different — see your first Oregon renewal. The requirements below apply to standard (subsequent) renewals.
We're finalizing our Oregon-approved continuing education. Get on the list and we'll email you the day it's live.
Get Notified →Oregon requires 30 hours of continuing education every two-year renewal. For renewals on or after January 1, 2026, the 30 hours must include:
Oregon added a required 2-hour Fair Housing course to continuing education for all active licensees. To keep the total at 30 hours, the Law and Rule Required Course (LARRC) was reduced from 3 hours to 2 hours and the first-renewal Advanced Practices course from 27 to 26 hours. The Fair Housing course is now its own standalone requirement each renewal.
Only courses you complete within the two years before your renewal or reactivation count toward that renewal. Plan to finish all 30 hours before your license expiration date.
No. The 40-hour BASS course you complete to qualify for the principal broker exam is separate from the standard 30-hour continuing education you owe every renewal cycle.
Our Oregon continuing education packages are being finalized to include everything an active broker needs in one place — Fair Housing, the LARRC, and your elective hours — with certificates issued as soon as you finish. Join the Oregon notify list and we'll tell you the moment they're available.

If you don't renew on time, you cannot practice real estate until your license is renewed and active again. Oregon allows reactivation of a lapsed license, but the longer it stays inactive the more steps are involved — and if it stays inactive too long you can be required to re-qualify. Keep your license current; it's far cheaper in time and money than reactivating.
None. You cannot list, show, negotiate, or accept compensation for real estate work while your license is inactive — doing so is practicing without a license. Refer your clients to an active broker until you've renewed.
No. You self-certify your CE at renewal, but you must keep your course completion records. OREA conducts random audits, so retain proof that you completed the required hours.
Yes. We retain a record of every course you complete with us, and you can log in to print your certificates anytime. We still recommend keeping your own copies as the Agency requires.
Generally, yes — continuing education to maintain your existing license is often deductible. Consult a tax professional about your specific situation.
